Fix Radio Collaboration - The Importance of RPE for Trades

It’s an unfortunate reality that many self-employed tradespeople are unaware of the risks that come with repeated exposure to everyday construction hazards—especially silica dust. Found in bricks, cement, plaster, and concrete, silica dust is one of the most common dangers workers face.

This lack of awareness has contributed to a sharp rise in silicosis cases, a serious illness with symptoms ranging from shortness of breath to chest pain, and in severe cases, cancer. To help address this, Fix Radio has launched a campaign aimed at improving education around the importance of wearing the correct respiratory protective equipment (RPE).

The PPE awareness campaign includes visits to builders’ merchants, where the Fix Radio team will hand out free RPE to visiting tradespeople, supported by an online awareness initiative across their social media platforms.

How Did Start Safety Assist?

Start Safety supplied the RPE being distributed at the events. We also provided video content and guidance on which items to offer and how to explain to tradespeople what to look for when choosing the right PPE.

When And Where Are The Events Being Held?

The Street Team from Fix Radio will be at CB Tottenham Plumbing & Heating Merchants, London N15 4NG, on November 17th and 18th, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. until around lunchtime each day.

Depending on turnout, additional dates and locations may be added.
