Rail & HS2 Safety Equipment & Supplies

The UK’s extensive railway network requires a lot of upkeep - and those who carry out the work need to pay close attention to their own safety and that of rail users.

As a rail worker, you may be involved in jobs like maintenance, installation of tracks or other infrastructure, or surveying. Whatever you’re working on, it’s important to use high-quality equipment that meets the relevant standards.

Stay safe when working on the railway

Depending on the nature and location of your job, here are some of the things you might need for working on the rail network.

Rail-certified workwear

Our range of hi-vis workwear - all in the mandatory orange colour scheme - is compliant with rail industry standards RIS-3279 and EN20471. Fireproof and arc flash-rated garments are available, while many items are waterproof and insulated to keep you comfortable in all weathers.

Personal protection

Rail environments also have special rules for PPE, largely regarding colours (so that equipment can’t be confused with rail signals). We stock railway hard hats in the permitted white, black, and blue, alongside hearing protection and safety boots.

Height safety equipment

You may be working on bridges, gantries, or overhead equipment, in which case you’ll need equipment like fall protection lanyards and harnesses. Tool lanyards stop equipment falling when you’re working at height.

Insulated digging tools

Live power cables are a hazard when working on the railway, so digging tools with insulated handles are essential to protect you from electric shocks. The majority of our spades, shovels, and picks are compliant with the BS8020:2011 safety standard.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can we keep railway workers and users safe during work?

Products like barriers and cones are ideal for cordoning off restricted areas or work zones, to protect workers and keep rail passengers out. You can also use specific signage to warn of hazards, plus wheel chocks and height restrictors to control heavy vehicles.

What are the specific safety requirements for rail work sites?

These can vary between sites (and depending on the type of work you’re doing), and it’s up to you to check that you’re complying with all relevant rules and standards.

Is it possible to get next-day delivery on rail products?

We keep a massive range of products in stock so that you can have them the very next day, including rail-certified hi-vis clothing and Shocksafe digging tools.

If I order in bulk, will I get a discount?

Yes - if you’re looking for a significant quantity of a single item, we can offer you preferential pricing. This includes our range of rail-related equipment.
