Street Bollards

Street Bollards

Street bollards have various functions, but they're typically used on high streets and pedestrianised areas. They are a great way to guide vehicles and improve safety by acting as a barrier between the road and the pavement. We offer street bollards that are reflective, anti-ram, and even removable. Appearance is also important when it comes to these bollards, so select an aesthetic that's right for your needs.

  • About Street Bollards

Street bollards are essential in pedestrianised urban areas where car access is highly regulated or discouraged. Proper installation of pedestrian bollards can prevent accidents and improve pedestrian safety without causing them any inconvenience. This is especially the case when installed along pavements and vehicular entrances into town and city centres.

A type of street furniture, bollards come in a wide range of different materials, from galvanised and stainless steel to polyurethane, each with different properties and aesthetic characteristics. They can come with a range of different features, too, with the most popular features being fixed, removable, and retractable options. Modern designs can also be flexible, improving durability.

Designed for installation in pedestrian zones, parks, and town centres, road bollards not only guide and protect pedestrians but also add to the aesthetic appeal of the area. These bollards for the street ensure that pedestrians can safely explore the area, while storefronts and other vulnerable street structures are protected from accidental damage.

    Heritage Bollards

Heritage bollards are probably the most popular bollard type in the UK, boasting a rustic charm and black, long-lasting aesthetic. Traditionally made from cast iron, heritage-style bollards are now available in many more durable materials that retain their colour (like Polyurethane). These are available in various traditional styles unique to each city across Britain.

    Removable or Retractable Street Bollards

Perfect for pedestrian zones that must admit cars from time to time, removable and retractable bollards for pedestrian zones can be easily extracted from their mountings when temporary vehicle access is required. They are prevalent in mixed-use urban areas where access needs change throughout the day.

    Stainless Steel Street Bollards

These bollards for the road are amongst the strongest of our range, with an aesthetically striking stainless steel aesthetic.

    Anti Ram Street Bollards

Designed to protect pedestrians and infrastructure in the case of a malicious attack, anti ram bollards have been designed to withstand being rammed with a vehicle. “Anti terrorism” in nature, these bollards are designed to at least meet British Standard EN 12767:2019, The Standard for Passive safety of support structures for road equipment.

Key Considerations When Buying Street Bollards

Before choosing the best street bollards for your space, consider the following factors to ensure they meet your functional needs:

    Maintenance

How often will the bollard need to be maintained and cleaned? Evaluate the bollard’s maintenance needs based on the durability of the chosen material, and its resistance to vandalism and grime, in order to prolong the lifespan of the bollards. Durable materials with corrosion-resistant finishes (like galvanised steel) will reduce upkeep and ensure longevity.

    Environment

What kind of environment will the bollard be installed in? Consider environmental factors that might affect the daily wear of the bollard. If installed in an area with high air salinity consider stainless steel bollards, If installed in an area with high foot traffic, consider a bollard that is structurally robust to avoid vandalism and easy to clean (or hard to mark) to counter dirt and grime deposited by passersby.

    Impact Resistance

Do you need something that will flex when hit? Consider a flexible design that can bend and regain its form once struck, improving durability and reducing damage both to the bollard and to the vehicle.

    Reflective

Do you need a pedestrian bollard that can be seen at night? Consider an illuminated bollard or one with reflective strips for greater visibility at night.

    Fixing Type

How long will your bollard need to remain in place? A cast in bollard will provide a more permanent fix, however, depending on the type of cast in fixing and the type of bollard itself, it may cause more damage to the ground in the case of collisions.
