Outrigger Pads & Mats

Outrigger Pads & Mats

Outrigger pads and mats are essential for distributing the weight of heavy equipment like cranes and aerial platforms, ensuring stability on soft or uneven ground. Outrigger mats protect both the ground and the equipment by providing a solid, stable base that prevents sinking or tipping. Available in different sizes and weight capacities, outrigger pads and mats offer a reliable solution for improving the safety and stability of machinery in a wide range of environments.

  • About Outrigger Pads & Mats

On sites where heavy equipment is required, outrigger pads and mats are vital to ensure stability and therefore safety.

These pads and mats offer a flat, robust, and stable surface when such machinery is in use, evenly distributing weight and preventing tipping or sinking – including on uneven or soft ground. They’re exceptionally lightweight, even on wetter days, as they don’t absorb water. This feature, along with high-quality handles, makes them easy to adjust and carry safely.

Outrigger pads and mats protect the equipment itself as well as the ground, whether its concrete, tarmac, or a softer surface. Distinctive markings ensure they’re highly visible, even in the shade of vehicles.

Our outrigger pads and mats are made using ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, and outperform traditional timber alternatives, which can splinter and give way.

We have various sizes to choose from, but if you can’t see a size to fit your needs, you can give us a call to arrange for custom pads to be made.

Uses for Outrigger Pads & Mats

    Loading bays

HGV trailers need to be stable to be loaded and unloaded safely, so outrigger pads and mats are essential in loading bays. Place pads underneath trailer feet to ensure that the load is spread evenly. This will also protect paved surfaces from potential damage.

    Trailer parking areas

HGV trailer legs will often be deployed in parking areas, so outrigger pads and mats may be utilised to protect the ground and ensure stability. This is particularly important if a trailer is being parked while fully loaded, as the increased weight raises the risk of tipping, sinking, and ground damage.

    Cranes

Cranes are especially liable to tipping, and such an eventuality could be a disaster. Therefore, it’s essential that they’re stable at all times. Outrigger pads and mats can be deployed to ensure this is the case, maximising safety at sites where cranes are in use.

    Aerial platforms

Aerial platforms are used across many different construction sites and typically use several legs to remain stable. When under stress, these legs can press into the ground they’re placed on and cause long-term damage. Outrigger pads and mats prevent this from happening, as they distribute the force evenly while maintaining stability.

Key factors to consider when purchasing Outrigger Pads & Mats

You will have to consider a series of factors when placing an order for outrigger pads and mats. It’s key to have weighed up the following before making a purchase.

    Dimensions

The feet on different HGVs, cranes, and other large equipment can vary in size, so double check that the outrigger pads and mats you’re ordering are large enough. We have multiple size options for our pads and mats, but you can also call us to request a custom size if required.

    Load capacity

As with any ground protection mats, it’s important to consider the load capacity they can withstand. Be sure to double check the maximum weight for the outrigger pads and mats you require to be sure they’re suitable for your demands.

    Storage

If you’re tight for storage space, you might need outrigger pads and mats that take up minimal space when not in use. We have pads and mats that can be stacked in an interlocking design if this is the case.

    Visibility

If your outrigger pads and mats are going to be deployed in low light conditions, or there are certain safety requirements on your site, you may need to consider visibility. Some of our pads and mats feature bright colouring to ensure they can be easily spotted.
