  • About Cold Lay Tarmac Repair

Repairing potholes, cracks, and other forms of road, driveway, and pavement damage is essential to maintaining safe and usable roadway systems, especially in high-traffic areas like city centres and entrances to towns where wear and tear is constant and excessive. Using the right cold-lay repair solutions can provide a cost-effective, instant fix, preventing further deterioration, reducing repair costs, and ensuring long-lasting results.

Cold tarmac repair solutions are designed for quick and easy application, making them ideal for long-term temporary DIY repairs. Our cold lay solutions can be applied in any weather, including cold or even wet weather, meaning they can be applied when they’re most needed, without the need for specialist tools or to wait for suitable weather. This means they can work for you whenever you need them.

Considered an “instant pothole repair solution", cold lay only needs to be applied and compacted before the road is ready for use again. Quick, efficient repairs lowers downtime, meaning the road is ready to use immediately and reduces inconvenience for drivers and pedestrians.

These solutions come in various packaging, such as bags, sacks, and bulk bags, providing a solution that fits your needs, whether for highway repair or driveway restoration.

    Quick Bags

At 25kg in weight, quick-fill bags are usually the go-to for fixing a single pothole. These quick-fix solutions are easy to use, and contain enough aggregate to repair a pothole of 1m² at a depth of 10mm (0.01 m³)

    Bulk Bags

For those who require a lot of material to be used over a short period of time, some of our cold lay tarmac in a bag is available for purchase in more cost-effective 1-tonne bulk bags.

    Viafix

Viafix is a very popular tarmac cold lay solution. We stock different aggregate grades of Viafix, which allow the instant repair of a wide range of different surfaces. Viafix cold tarmac bags are suitable for use on both public and private roads (including highways!).

    Ultracrete

Ultracrete provides a wide range of tarmac repair products, including the Instant Road Repair cold lay repair, which is a great low-cost option.

Getting The Best Cold Lay Tarmac Repair For The Job

Before choosing your cold lay repair, consider the following in order to get the best solution for your needs:

    Curing Times

Most of our cold-lay tarmac solutions are “instant-fix solutions.” However, consider the weather and temperature when fixing potholes, as these can affect the curing times of products differently.

    Grade

What surface requires repair? The aggregate size or “grade” of cold asphalt used should be similar to that of the existing paving, 6mm for footpaths and driveways, and 10mm for roads.

    Packaging Format

Depending on how quickly you will use your cold fill tarmac repair will determine how much you need.
