  • Coloured Traffic Cones

New Coloured Traffic cone standards are here. You may notice on your travels that there are now new colours of traffic cones appearing on the UK roadways. These new coloured cones have been introduced to ensure that road users and construction area traffic are aware of specific hazards and traffic regulations on the road.

The UK Highways Agency has recently introduced Blue and White, Yellow and White as well as Green and White cones to the variety that can be used. Each colour set has its own specific meaning.

    • Green and white cones – Highlight an access point to another lane, they are frequently seen on motorways during roadworks. They are often seen in areas upgrading to smart motorways.
    • Blue and White Cones – These are warning cones that show the presence of an overhead structure, they can also be fitted with a yellow warning sleeve to warn of overhead power cables.
    • Yellow and White – These show that the area is a no stopping area, these may be used to prevent site vehicles from blocking other traffic on the main highway or for a host of other reasons.

Although these new coloured cones will become more of a common sight on the UK roads, they will still be vastly outnumbered by the traditional Orange and white cone that we have come to know and love.
