  • About Eye Protection

Eye protection is a type of PPE that protects both eyes from injury or irritation caused by foreign objects entering the eyes. The type and level of protection you require will very much depend on the work you are carrying out.

For example, a person using a grinder will potentially need a very different level of PPE eye protection from a person who is mixing chemicals. Safety eyewear can protect against chemical and mechanical hazards as well as radiation and laser light.

With our extensive range of eye PPE, you can help improve your worksite safety by making eye injuries a thing of the past. Whether you are protecting yourself from flying solid debris, dust, or even liquids, we have something for you and your staff.

We stock all the common types of eye protection, including safety spectacles, overglasses to wear on top of prescription specs, enclosed safety goggles, and full face shields. Explore the individual collections to find the best choice for your needs, and learn more in our blog article.

    Understanding EN markings

The manufacturer will have applied EN markings to the lens and frame of any safety glasses or goggles you purchase. These indicate the performance of the eyewear in terms of its resistance to hazards and other elements. Below you will find full details on how to understand these markings.

An EN166 marking indicates that the safety glasses have been tested to comply with EN166 safety standard, and validates the other markings on the eye protection.

You'll also see markings relating to the optical clarity of the eyewear, its mechanical strength, and which hazards it's suitable for. For instance, a lens marking of 5 indicates that the lens is suitable for use whilst working with acetylene torches with a flow of 70-200 litres/hr.

Click here to read our complete guide to eye protection, which provides more details about these markings and the different types and colours of safety eyewear.
