Our HotMelt adhesive is commonly used to attach road studs to the tarmac and concrete surfaces. It is highly durable and relatively easy to work with, assuming you have the appropriate equipment. The HotMelt is sold in a block of 25Kg, this can be heated in a vessel and dispensed directly onto the road surface where required.
This image shows hotmelt being poured onto a road surface in preparation for road stud application.
We recommend that the adhesive is broken into smaller pieces, this allows it to be heated more evenly. You will need to heat the adhesive to 160-180C for optimal performance. This will ensure that the stud firmly adheres to the road surface.
Please ensure you read all safety data information thoroughly before commencing any work.
The road surface will need to be dry and free from any loose chippings and material. You can either sweep the area or use an air compressor to achieve this. Any salt and chemical deposits will also need to be removed with appropriate chemicals or mechanically before installation. A gas lance can be used to heat the road surface prior to application to ensure that everything is dry and that the road surface is above 5C.
For further information on the installation and use of this product, please see the attached instructions in a PDF format. These instructions can be printed along with the safety data sheets to ensure they are easily at hand during application.
Any studs installed with Hotmelt adhesive should be allowed to cool and settle for at least 120 seconds before being exposed to traffic. This will ensure that the stud has set in place and is secure. The Stud should have no gaps around its edge. This prevents water ingress or “rocking” of the stud which will lead to early failure.
