Safety Work Boots

Safety Work Boots

Safety work boots are generally defined as any item of safety footwear that extends above the ankle. This has various benefits with some of the key ones being improved ankle support from rollover and protection against impact against the ankle both of which can be extremely painful. Boots in this category also have safety features such as toe protectors, puncture resistant soles and sides as well as slip resistant technologies. Boots are a firm favourite of the construction and resource extraction industries where no chances can be taken.

  • About Safety Work Boots

Safety workboots are specialised pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) specialised to protect the feet and ankles in different industrial and construction environments. Built using durable materials like leather or synthetic materials, safety boots feature steel or composite toe caps to protect against heavy objects and impacts as well as often featuring supportive midsoles and slip resistant treads.

All our work boots conform to British Standard EN ISO 20345:2011, this covers toe protection, impact resistance and compression protection as standard. Within this standard, there are several additional standards that safety boots can adhere to, which are worth considering. These extra standards cover things like anti-slip rating, waterproof rating and much more.

Whether you’re in need of a knee high, thermal protected, waterproof, anti-slip boot or an entry level work boot for occasional use, we have a massive selection from all the top brands to choose from in a range of styles and price points.

    Lightweight Safety Boots

Lightweight boots are designed for those that need to do lots of walking. Typically lighter weights are achieved through more expensive materials like kevlar and composites. A lighter boot is essential for anyone who is on their feet all day like site managers, or labourers.

    Waterproof Work Boots

Waterproof work boots are perfect for industries like construction and agriculture, where the wearer spends long periods of time around damp, uneven ground, but foot protection is important.

Waterproof work boots are perfect for those working outside all day all year round. If you work on uneven ground in potentially poor weather conditions, having a waterproof boot will be essential.

    Steel Toe Cap Safety Boots

Steel toe work safety boots are the most popular form of toe and sole protection on the market, and steel toe boots are amongst the heaviest duty in terms of toe protection. However, many boots feature lighter-weight aluminium or composite toecaps, which provide the same level of protection with the added benefit of weighing less.

    Dealer Work Boots

The extremely popular Dealer-style work boots combine the classic design of Dealer boots (aka Chelsea boots) with durable materials and safety features suitable for various work environments. These are especially popular in trades such as plumbing and electrical work, where you might need to take off your shoes when walking across people’s carpets, and rank amongst our top most comfortable work boots.

What Makes A Good Pair Of Safety Boots For Work?

Before choosing the best safety work boots, refer to a risk assessment of your place of work to consider the risks that need to be mitigated when working in that environment.

    Comfort and Support

Your boots will support your full weight for over 8 hours a day, so comfort and support from day 1 are the most important factors to look for. Workers are reluctant to wear uncomfortable shoes, as discomfort can turn to pain over longer periods of time.

    Durability

The most important feature, with comfort, is the durability and strength of your safety boot. Boots with longer lifespans are better value for money and provide comfort and support for longer, as they mould to the shape of your foot.

    Toe Protection

Safety boots should always have a reinforced toe cap, either metal, like steel, or a lighter-weight composite. Compliant site boots must have at least 200 joules of impact resistance and withstand 15KN of compression (equivalent to 1.5 tonnes on the toe area).

    Compliance With Standards

If you need site safety boots with additional protection features, ensure they conform to the EN ISO 20345:2011 safety standards to be usable on-site in the UK, the best work boots always are.

    Water Resistance & Slip Resistance

If you work in a wet environment, consider boots with higher water and slip ratings.

    Midsole Protection

Midsole penetration Protection can protect against nails and other sharp protrusions underfoot. To meet EN ISO 20345 midsole protection standards (an additional rating on top of the basic toe protection), footwear midsoles must be able to resist a penetration force of 1100N. This is applied using either steel or aluminium inserts, as with steel-toe safety boots, or a more comfortable Kevlar insole.
