  • About Bike Lockers

Bike lockers (or bike safes) are a great way to provide peace of mind to cyclist patrons, providing a compact cycle storage solution that works in both public and private spaces. Fully enclosed, lockers offer a high level of protection against theft and harsh weather conditions, making them ideal for spaces such as transport hubs like train and bus stations and private spaces like offices, residential complexes, schools, and universities. Although usually accommodating just one bike, cycle lockers come in many different designs and sizes, made to accommodate different needs, locations and use cases.

Bicycle lockers are usually made from strong materials like steel and aluminium to disincentivise theft and resist tampering. Much of our stock features user-friendly built-in locking mechanisms, ventilation to reduce condensation, and weatherproofing to protect bikes from the elements. They are often personalisable, from size to colour, with optional accessories like signage, so they can fit in with their environment’s aesthetic or branding.

Many bike lockers have an existing rail or stand within the locker to keep the bike upright. This way, the bike can be locked using a regular bike lock while inside the locker, adding an extra barrier to theft. Depending on the size of the locker itself, the stand can also often be used to store several bikes in the same locker.

The presence of bike lockers on a premises is often the difference between a person cycling there or taking the car. Located in stations, for example, users are far more likely to cycle if they know they can lock up their bikes in an extremely safe and secure location.

    Vertical Bike Lockers

Designed to store bikes upright to occupy less floor space, vertical bike lockers are ideal for urban environments with space restrictions, such as offices and residential complexes.

    Mesh Bike Lockers

More lightweight and cost-effective than bike lockers with sheet doors, mesh doors can be seen through, allowing users to quickly relocate their bikes.

    Storage Lockers For Multiple Bikes

Although individual bike lockers are by far our most popular type of cycle safe, couples and families often want to share a cycle locker. 2 bike storage solutions allow communal storage for small groups who want to store their bikes together, or only have a single padlock between them.
Head to our “bike shelters” category for larger bike storage solutions.

Getting The Best Bike Locker For Your Needs

Consider the following factors when choosing the best bike storage locker for your space:

    Size & Capacity

Our bike lockers come in different sizes and are able to accommodate different types of bikes, including mountain bikes and e-bikes. Consider the locker’s dimensions, so it fits the intended type of bike! Some lockers are designed to store one bike per unit, while others can accommodate multiple bikes.

    Door & Cladding Finish

Although transparent claddings like mesh or polycarbonate, are relatively strong and budget-friendly, the fact they are see-through can be a problem when thieves are involved. Sheet cladding has the benefit of being much stronger, whilst providing no view onto the locker's contents. For a locker that shelters just from the elements, choose one with no door.

    Installation Method

Depending on the level of security needed, most of our range can be installed using a bolt-down or cast-in method. Cast-in methods are the longest-term, most durable solution.

    Maintenance

Maintenance requirements can vary based on the material and design, so choose lockers that fit your abilities. Bear in mind that mesh can be very difficult to keep clean, and also allows litter to pass through.

    Budget

The cost of bike lockers can vary widely based on material, size, security features, and customisation options. While metal lockers tend to be more expensive due to their higher security, mesh and polycarbonate lockers offer a more budget-friendly alternative with good protection. Consider the long-term value, including maintenance and potential replacements of the locker, as well as the value of the bikes being stored!

    Locking Mechanism

Does your bike locker need an integrated locking system? The most secure bike lockers feature in-built locks like key locks, combination locks, or electronic access systems, whereas others require the user to bring their own padlock. Consider the level of security needed and choose a locking mechanism that is easy to use and that provides durable protection.

    Accessories

Bike lockers can benefit from a range of accessories, such as racks, lamps and signage!
