Coloured Hard Hats

Coloured Hard Hats

Our range of coloured hard hats is one of the most comprehensive on the internet. Every standard colour is available, including the most commonly seen white, blue, black, and orange. Additionally, we carry more unusual colours such as green, pink, red, and grey. Many of these colours are used on-site to indicate different roles, which can change between factories or construction sites where helmets have more specific colour coding requirements.

  • About Coloured Hard Hats

Ensuring the safety of workers in any industrial environment is incredibly important. Coloured hard hats help workers quickly recognise other personnel (such as visitors and managers) and their responsibilities on site, improving efficiency and safety.

This key form of PPE is mandatory for work on most sites across the UK, and colours are relatively standardised across different industries. Build UK sets hard hat colour guidelines for the construction industry in the UK, clearly stating the four colours that should be used, and those that aren’t allowed on site. The rail industry uses just two colours, blue and white, to distinguish between workers, and factories, marine, and other industries (like oil rigging) have site-specific hard hat colour codes.

The most common colours include white, black, blue, and orange, each serving a distinct purpose in the workplace. Hard hat stickers can also be added to identify roles, like green stickers for first raiders and red stickers for fire marshals in the construction industry. When choosing the best helmet for you, consider your site-specific hard hat colour code. This will ensure that workers are familiar with the colours of helmets worn by other staff members on-site and can quickly locate colleagues when needed.

    For Site Supervisors

In the UK construction industry, supervisors typically wear black hard hats while they are on site. The colour is easy to spot from across the site and is easily distinguishable from other hard hat colours.

    For Visitors

Visitors and new workers usually wear blue hard hats in the UK construction industry, to ensure that everyone is aware to be wary around them. Blue hard hats are also used in the rail industry.

    For Signallers

Orange hard hats are usually reserved for slingers and signallers, as their bright, vibrant colour is easy to spot from a distance.

    Hard Hats For Competent Operatives

Our range of white hard hats is worn by regular site tradesmen. The colour coding helps distinguish experienced personnel from leadership, improving communication and coordination on site. White hard hats are also allowed in the rail industry.

Key Considerations When Buying A Coloured Hard Hat

Choosing the right coloured hard hat is essential; if you get it wrong, you could experience a breakdown in communication. Here are some of the top features you should consider when selecting your coloured hard hats.

    Identification of Roles and Responsibilities

What coloured hard hat do you need? Ensure that your chosen colour accurately reflects the wearer’s role on site for quick identification.

    Visibility

Consider the visibility requirements of the job in regards to its location and time of day. Reflective stickers can also be added to your helmet to improve this.

    Specialised Hazards

Does your site have any special considerations? Hard hats are there for your safety. Make sure you choose one that is rated for the specific hazards of your site (such as electrical falls, chin strap retention, etc.).

    Comfort and Fit

Will you be wearing the hard hat for extended periods of time? Consider a lightweight helmet or a helmet with a terylene inner harness, as they can be more comfortable than a plastic one. If you get hot while on-site or work in warm environments, consider a helmet with ventilation for cool airflow.

    Attachments

Do you require hearing or eye protection for your daily activities? Consider a hard hat with integrated hearing or eye protection. This has the added benefit of being harder to lose and better value for money than buying the items separately.

    Accessories

Do you have a site-specific role that requires demarking? To identify roles, stickers can be added to any coloured hard hat.. Green stickers are or first aiders, and red stickers are for fire marshals.
