  • About Work Lights

You’ll need different lighting levels for different types of work. For example, task lighting (especially for close, accurate work) should be brighter than lighting for a wide area. LED work lights are the brightest and most energy-efficient, and they're  also very durable and much less fragile than other types of lights.

Flexible models such as inspection lamps, tripod lights, and magnetic lights allow you to shine the light directly on where you’re working, even if it’s an awkward angle. For those who move frequently between locations, such as arborists and agricultural workers, portable lights are easy to set up wherever you’re working.

Cordless rechargeable versions are ideal if mains-wired lighting isn’t possible, whether you’re moving around or staying in one place. Most portable work lights are either USB chargeable or use the brand's standard battery size, allowing them to share batteries with other tools in the range.

For outdoor and wet site use, look for an IP rating of IP65 - this is the standard minimum for outdoor work lights and means they’re protected from rain and dust ingress. It’s also best to use low-voltage 110v lights outdoors.

What Makes A Good Work Light?

Before choosing the best work light for your needs, consider the following key factors:

    Light Sensor

Will the installation area be dark even during the day? If visibility is clear during daylight hours, consider a light with an inbuilt sunlight sensor.

    Energy Source

Consider the light’s accessibility to a direct power source. Choose between battery and mains-powered lights to best suit your needs and environment.

    Battery Life

If you need the light on for long periods, make sure you choose a long-life battery to keep your work site lit for as long as possible.

    Fixing Options

How do you intend to install or hold the light? Do you need something with a handle, like a lantern? Or do you need something with an adjustable floor stand? Most of our lights are designed to be as versatile as possible, whether tripod-mountable or floor-standing.

    Size & Robustness

Consider how often the light will need to be moved. Stronger, bulkier lights tend to be more hard-wearing and durable, but weigh more and so may be less practical.
