Rigger Boots

Rigger Boots

Rigger boots are pull-on safety boots that go roughly a third of the way up the leg and include a steel toe cap. They get their name due to use by workers on offshore oil rigs, but they are popular among manual workers and on construction sites. Rigger boots are fantastic for avoiding slips on wet surfaces and their height offers extended ankle protection. Insulating lining is another bonus, keeping the lower leg warm in colder conditions.

  • About Rigger Boots

Rigger-style boots for the workplace are high-ankle, slip-on safety boots (a form of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)), designed to provide foot protection and ankle support in a range of different harsh working environments. Our selection is made from durable, hardy materials like leather and synthetic alternatives. A key characteristic of rigger boots is that, although they are at least ankle height, they are easy to pull on and off, and so are ideal for those who must change or remove their shoes regularly during the work day (such as farmers, plumbers, electricians and landscapers to name just a few).

All our rigger work boots conform to British Standard EN ISO 20345:2011, which means these boots must feature steel or composite toe caps to be workplace compliant in the UK, protecting the wearer’s feet from falling heavy objects and impacts. Within this standard, there are additional specifications that rigger boots can meet, such as anti-slip ratings and waterproofing, offering further protection tailored to specific needs. They also often include other protective features like supportive midsoles, and slip-resistant treads to improve comfort, stability and safety.

Whether you need knee-high, thermal-protected, waterproof, anti-slip work boots or an entry-level pair for occasional use, we offer a wide range of rigger boots from top brands. Our selection includes various styles, made from quality materials such as full-grain leather at price points to suit most needs.

    Waterproof Rigger Boots

Waterproof work boots are perfect for industries like construction and agriculture, where the wearer spends long periods of time around damp ground and taller wet plants like grass, but where foot protection is important. Thanks to their above-ankle height, comfort and practicality, and the fact they’re so easy to don and doff, rigger boots are perfect for those working outside all day, all year round.

    Steel Toe Cap Rigger Boots

Steel toe rigger boots are amongst the heaviest duty in terms of toe protection from our range. However, many boots feature lighter-weight aluminium or composite toe caps, which provide a similar level of protection, while weighing less.

Rigger Safety Boots For Men Or Women

Our range of rigger boots includes styles for both men and women. Each is designed with appropriate sizing and slight stylistic differences, allowing for a comfortable fit for each gender. Rigger boots for women are often taller, while rigger boots for men are often wider.

What Makes A Good Pair Of Rigger Work Boots?

Before choosing the best rigger boots, UK compliant for the workplace, refer to your workplace risk assessment to choose the appropriate boots:

    Comfort and Support

Finding a pair of quality, comfortable work boots is very important if you want to avoid sore feet or even back pain at the end of the day.

    Midsole Protection

Do you need to protect the bottom of your foot? To meet EN ISO 20345 midsole protection standards, footwear midsoles must be able to resist a penetration force of 1100N. This is done with either steel or aluminium inserts or a more comfortable Kevlar insole.

    Water Resistance & Slip Resistance

Do you work in an environment prone to water? Consider boots with higher water and slip ratings. These features have their own EN ISO 20345:2021 ratings.

    durability

The most important feature, with comfort, is the durability and strength of your safety boot. Boots with longer lifespans are better value for money and provide comfort and support for longer, as they mould to the shape of your foot.

    Toe Protection

Safety boots should always have a reinforced toe cap, either metal, like steel, or a lighter-weight composite. Compliant site boots must have at least 200 joules of impact resistance and withstand 15KN of compression (equivalent to 1.5 tonnes on the toe area).

    Compliance With Standards

If you need site rigger boots with additional protection features, ensure they conform to the EN ISO 20345:2011 safety standards to be usable on-site in the UK.

    Height Of Boot

Rigger work boots vary in height, depending on their brand and style. Consider the environment in which you will wear them, before choosing a style that responds to your needs. Wearing tall rigger boots is the perfect solution for working in the long, wet grass common in the UK.
