Case Study: Bespoke Signage For Amazon’s The Grand Tour

Overview

Studio Lambert, a production company working on Amazon’s The Grand Tour, approached Start Safety with a requirement for bespoke and standard signage for an episode of the latest series.

The challenge

In episode 4, Last Car Standing, the show’s presenters set out to find the strongest car ever made by running destructive tests. This involved creating the “World's Worst Road”, complete with signage to set the scene and direct the action safely. 

The main challenge was the tight timescale, requiring the signs to be on site within a couple of weeks. This left little time for design work to be completed for the bespoke signs.

The solution

Stephen Mizelas from Studio Lambert came across Start Safety while searching for signage online. He got in touch and discovered that we could accommodate the studio’s need for both custom and standard signage with a quick turnaround in time for filming. 

After chatting to the Start Safety team, Stephen settled on the QuickFit EnduraSign range with some bespoke faces. This range offers a low-level plastic frame with a compact design, making it easy to transport and deploy - while the quick-swap sign faces are perfect for a fast-paced TV set.

The outcome

Thanks to Start Safety’s expert guidance and experience in the signage industry, the project was quickly underway and the signage was delivered on time as discussed and promised. 

Studio Lambert was able to set up the site without delay, creating a sense of realism by using accurate signage that would realistically be used on a real road. The episode is now available to watch on Amazon Prime.
