The challenge

Line demarcation is one of the many services offered by Floor Painters Ltd. They typically used epoxy coating for indoor settings, such as marking out different zones within a warehouse.

Then a client asked them to install some outdoor line markings at a large manufacturing site. But epoxy can take up to eight hours to cure and it needs dry conditions - two reasons why using it outside isn’t always an option, especially with the unpredictable British weather.

The solution

Terry Rossington, owner of Floor Painters Ltd, realised that thermoplastic markings would be ideal for the job. Since this was a new service, the team first needed to learn how to install the material correctly at their own site.

Thermoplastic markings form a durable bond with tarmac or concrete when heated with a gas torch.

The outcome

Once the team had practised the technique, they found that installing thermoplastic demarcations outside was quick and cost effective - and it enabled them to achieve good results.

“If we’re working with clean concrete or tarmac, all it needs is a good sweep before applying the primer,” says Terry. “The preformed letters are especially useful, and the 700 mm size is ideal for an HGV bay layout.”
