I Want Armco Safety Barrier - Or Do I?

When you think about impact barriers, the first name that pops into your head is probably "Armco". Armco was the brand name for barriers made by the AK Steel Corporation in the USA, and Armco crash barriers have been used for many years on the UK motorways, race circuits and roadsides.

Over the years, Armco was adopted as a generic term - similar to the way we refer to any vacuum cleaner as a "Hoover" - and it's frequently used to describe any impact barrier of a similar construction to that of actual Armco barrier.

So do you really need Armco barrier?

This is a good question. There is no actual specification for Armco barriers. There is no mention of it within the British Standards - again, it has just been adopted as a generic term for impact barriers. So the answer is yes. . . and no. Below is a list of applications where you can use our impact or "Armco" barriers.

Applications where our impact barriers are suitable

Car parks

If you need a barrier to go around a car park to outline parking areas and prevent cars from parking too close to the opposite row, then impact barrier is an ideal solution.

Building protection

Use impact barrier to protect buildings in and around factories and warehouses where vehicles pass frequently and come close to the buildings. It is much cheaper to replace a piece of impact barrier than to replace a wall that has been badly grazed by a car or lorry.

Loading bays

In a place where large vehicles are frequently reversing, it's a good idea to install impact barrier - especially if reversing visibility is reduced. Instead of the vehicles nudging into the building and causing damage, they could nudge into an impact barrier that won't even show a mark.

Machine protection & racking protection

Inside factories and warehouses where forklifts and mobile lifting equipment operate, impact barrier offers protection around racking and machines. A simple misjudgment could cause thousands of pounds of damage - or, even worse, a collapsed section of racking and an injury! Should a forklift strike a machine or control panel it could cause weeks of downtime while the equipment is repaired, so it really is in your best interest to get an impact barrier installed.
