Metal benches are extremely customisable and offer a more durable option than wooden benches. They tend to be more costly upfront compared to wooden or recycled plastic alternatives, but require little to no maintenance. There are different types of metal benches - iron benches are the most durable while steel benches are most resistant to rust and scratches. A significant portion of our benches are modular, so they can be installed end-to-end or in combination with other benches from the same collection.

    Our range of handpicked commercial-grade outdoor metal benches offer many advantages over those made using other materials. These include extremely low maintenance costs and the highest durability against the elements, vandalism, and animal waste among our selection of outdoor seating. Although metal bench seats may have a higher initial cost, their ongoing maintenance costs are close to nil. 

    Most of our metal outdoor seating options have a galvanised steel finish, which can be powder-coated for a touch of colour. We recommend upgrading to a stainless steel finish for benches installed in high-density or high-salinity areas like coastal towns, as stainless steel outdoor benches offer the highest durability against erosion and salt throughout our whole range of street furniture.

    Incorporating metal benches into urban pedestrian zones improves the look of the space and adds functionality to the shared space. When installing your bench, consider that outdoor metal benches are relatively sensitive to temperature changes, meaning they warm up in the sun and cool down in the cold.

    Metal Benches With Backrests

    Metal benches with backrests are the staple for urban areas with high footfall due to their robust frames and durable, low-maintenance builds. They also offer some additional comfort to users thanks to their backrests. On top of this, metal designs tend to be quick and easy to clean, allowing efficient management of public spaces.

    Metal Backless Benches

    Great space savers when used correctly, metal backless benches can be approached and used from any direction. This means they do not need to be installed against a wall, although they can be! This allows much more diversity in how they are installed and used, like wall-mounted backless benches or perch benches installed in shelters, for example.

    Metal Park Benches

    Traditional park benches are usually built from a heavy-duty cast iron or cast steel frame, coupled with wooden slats and often a memorial plaque.     Suitability

    The street furniture you choose should be coherent and cohesive, matching or complimenting the overall aesthetic of your space without diverting passersby’s attention away from significant areas.

    Maintenance

    Depending on whether your street furniture is meant for indoor or outdoor use, choose something that is easily cleaned and maintained. Bear in mind that despite being more aesthetically pleasing, wooden street furniture needs to be maintained at least once a year to ensure its long lifespan.

    Fixing Method

    Fixing method can affect the aesthetics as well as the amount of free space available across your open space. Wall or post-mounted or removable solutions, for example, can save space, whilst bolt-down or cast-in products tend to be more long-lasting options, especially if vandalism is a concern.

    Weather Protection

    Outdoor furniture intended to be installed in uncovered areas needs to be weather resistant, protecting against rain, snow, UV rays, and airborne debris, as well as human damage (from wear and tear to dropped cola!).

    Length

    How much footfall does the space see? Benches can seat multiple people, usually 2 to 4, although some styles (such as tree benches) can seat many more. Consider installing a bench of a suitable length for the expected footfall and lingering of passersby.

    Durability

    A metal bench should be built to withstand not only the outdoor elements year-round but also potential vandalism and animal damage, allowing its long-lasting use.
