The traditional method of flood defence is to use sandbags - literally plastic or hessian bags filled with sand which can be stacked to create a solid barrier against floodwater. They’re fast and easy to deploy, and we can order them in bulk for you. (They’re also useful for adding ballast to road signs!)

Fillable plastic barriers are an alternative option, using water, sand, or gravel as ballast to weigh them down and keep them in place. With rubber seals between them, you can make a chain to stop water coming past. They’re lightweight when empty, making them easy to move into position.

The latest solution is L-shaped bracket barriers. These don’t require ballast, as they leverage the floodwater itself. As the water rises, the pressure on the base and vertical walls makes the barriers increasingly stable - with their shape creating a seal against the road surface. You can use them to form a linear or circular shield.
