  • About Safety Overglasses

If you are one of the many people in the UK who have to wear prescription glasses, then a set of safety overglasses can keep your eyes safe in environments requiring eye protection.

Overglasses share many of the same properties as standard safety glasses but are larger and shaped to allow you to wear them over your prescription eyewear. You can still wear overglasses even if you don’t need prescription specs, so they can be a great way to kit out a whole workforce with a “one-pair-fits-all” solution.

Our overspecs are all EN166 compliant and made to a high standard, with a class 1 optical clarity rating. This means that they can be worn for a full working day and beyond without causing eye strain.

When should you wear safety overspecs?

Consider wearing overglasses if you’re using hand tools or need to protect your eyes from low-impact debris. Over-spectacles are not suitable for working with power tools, fine dusts, irritating gases, or chemicals that have a splash risk - nor if you’re at risk of arc flash. Safety goggles or a face shield can be safer for these scenarios.

Lens coating options & tints for safety overglasses

Our PPE overglasses come with various protective coatings and tints - check out the different options to see what’s right for you:

    UV protection

Indicated by markings on the lens starting with 2-, 2C- or 5-. If present, all of these markings indicate that the lens has UV protection, shielding your eyes from ultraviolet light.

    K: Anti-scratch

Lenses with a K marking indicate an anti-scratch coating; this will help prevent micro-scratches from forming on the lens. Lenses that don't have this protection can be scratched by something as simple as cleaning them with the wrong cloth.

    N: Fogging resistance

An N lens marking means that the glasses have anti-mist properties. If you’re working in an area of high humidity or going from a hot environment to a cold environment, this anti-fogging coating helps to ensure that your glasses don’t steam up as readily as glasses without the coating.

    Smoked

We offer a few styles in a smoked finish - this acts in the same way as sunglasses, helping to reduce eye strain in bright outdoor environments.
