  • About Fire-Retardant Workwear

We take pride in the wide array of quality flame-retardant clothing we supply. This means you are guaranteed to find something that suits your safety requirements, stands the test of time, and delivers dependable performance.

Fire-resistant workwear is an essential component of many workers' PPE. It is made from advanced fabrics and can withstand heat, flames, and, in some cases, splashes of molten metals. It does all of this without igniting, melting, or splitting open, which can expose your skin to the heat source and cause terrible and painful burns.

With so many industries requiring fire-resistant clothing, it is no surprise that there are so many different styles and types to choose from. Our range includes hi-vis options, toned-down options, and all manner of garment styles, from socks to trousers to aprons and hats.

    What Is Fire Resistant Clothing?

Fire-resistant clothing, or FR clothing as it is sometimes referred to, is a specialist clothing that is designed to reduce the likelihood of burns caused by processes using heat or where a byproduct can be heat or flames.

Some examples of tasks that require FR clothing are welding and grinding steel, where hot sparks or molten metal can pose a risk of penetrating and melting through clothing or setting it alight.

Fire-resistant clothing can be identified by its EN standard markings: EN ISO 11612, EN ISO 11611 (for welding specifically), EN ISO 14116, EN 61482-1-2 (although this is more for Arc Flash Clothing, which offers other protections as well), and EN 14116. These markings are clearly displayed on most brands to help you identify them quickly and easily.

Fire Resistance From Head To Toe

As there is a risk that almost any part of your clothing could catch fire, it's important that you wear flame-resistant clothing across the body. This means that almost every clothing item is available with a fireproof rating, including FR T-shirts, FR Coats, FR sweaters, FR hats, and much more.

A selection of trousers, underwear, and even socks is available for the lower half of the body. This allows you to stay protected from head to toe.

    Layered Protection

It is important to layer your flame-resistant clothing for the most at-risk roles and tasks so that sub-layers do not combust or melt onto the skin. For this reason, we supply everything from underwear, base layers, shirts, trousers, and overalls, giving you as much protection as you require.

Key Considerations To Get The Best From Your FR Workwear

When purchasing fireproof clothing, consider the following points to ensure the best protection and performance for your role.

    Correct Standards

It is essential that you purchase the proper specification of FR clothing for your needs, which means getting the correct EN, ISO, or IEC standards.

    Function

Your clothing needs to suit your role. This means having the right pockets or providing the right protection from rain. If your clothing does not provide you with the correct functionality, you may be tempted to substitute items for incorrectly rated options, increasing the risk of burns.

    Fit

Fire-rated clothing should fit correctly. It should not be too tight, but it should also not hang loose. Incorrectly fitting clothing can be detrimental to performance and even put you at risk of other hazards.

    Other Hazards

Consider if you need hi-vis or cold insulation. Being hit by a vehicle or piece of equipment that did not see you can be just as fatal as being burnt.
