Arc Flash Clothing

Arc Flash Clothing

ARC Flash clothing is specialist workwear that is treated to limit the conductivity of the garment, as well as reduce the likelihood of burns should the worst happen. These clothes are worn by people working in areas where high voltages are present, they limit the transmission of heat through the garment and are also fire retardant to avoid the clothes catching alight and staying alight during and after the intense burst of plasma and flame released during an Arc Flash.

  • About Arc Flash Clothing

With the help of our Arc Flash Workwear range, you will be able to work with confidence around high-voltage equipment, knowing that should an arc flash occur, you have done everything you can to reduce the likelihood of burns that an arc flash can cause.

With some of the biggest brands in arc flash-rated workwear on board, we can guarantee that you will receive only the best quality garments that are comfortable to wear and, therefore, offer protection for you all day long.

All the clothing in this range has been tested to either IEC 61482 or BS EN 61482. Many of the clothing items in this range come with clear labelling that is easily seen, ensuring you pick the right pair of trousers or coat for the job and don't unintentionally end up endangering yourself by wearing a non-rated item of clothing.

    What Is Arc Flash Clothing

When working around high voltage equipment such as industrial switch cupboards and control panels or overhead power cables and transformers such as those seen on the UK’s power and rail infrastructure, there is always a risk that an electrical arc can occur.

This causes massive amounts of heat and light to be released into the surrounding area. Anyone in this area if not wearing suitable clothing, can experience burns and even be set on fire. Arc flash-rated clothing has been tested and shown to absorb heat and not be combustible, ensuring that in the event of an arc flash occurring, clothing does not melt, combust or pass through excessive heat.

There are several grades of arc flash-rated clothing, so be sure to check that you are getting a product that is suitable for your working environment, with enough protection for your role and the risk you are facing. This rating is normally shown as cal /cm2, indicating how many calories of protection each cm2 will provide.

Arc Flash Protection From Head to Toe

When wearing arc flash protective clothing, it is important that you do so throughout, as wearing non-arc flash-rated base layers and even underwear can leave you exposed to risk.

Improper undergarments can melt onto the skin or even combust in the right circumstances. This is why we stock a complete range of clothing, allowing you to dress from head to toe with every layer for full protection.

Choose from a range of brands and styles, allowing you to work comfortably all day long.

Getting The Best Arc Flash Workwear For Your Needs

To help you track down the best clothing for your role and needs, we have put together a few key points to consider:

    Protection level

Ensure that the clothing you are purchasing meets the class you require, you should have a minimum requirement as a cal/cm2 rating that you need to achieve with your workwear to remain protected.

    Other Safety Features

Ensure that you meet any other safety requirements, such as reflectivity, and keep yourself safe from other hazards on site.

    Comfort

Getting comfortable, well-fitting arc flash-rated clothing is essential. Uncomfortable clothing can become irritating and provide a temptation to take the clothing off, exposing you to danger.

    Quality

Your safety is paramount, so you should only buy from trusted suppliers and brands with a proven track record for producing quality safety clothing and products.
