Ford Ahead Post Mounted Sign - Diagram 554 R2/RA2 (Face Only)
Diagram 554 is a permanent post-mounted warning sign for use at roads where fords are present at any time, even if they’re likely to dry up in summer.
The sign should be placed at the beginning of the road the ford is on, along with a plate indicating the distance and a directional arrow where appropriate. Where the road frequently floods, the ‘Ford Ahead’ warning sign may be supplemented by a ‘Road liable to flooding’ plate. ‘Try your brakes’ should also be installed after a ford, it is recommended to mount this on the reverse of the ‘Ford Ahead’ sign using one of our Back-to-Back clips.
Additionally, although the water depth gauge is no longer a prescribed sign, their use is encouraged where roads become impassable in times of heavy flooding but need to be authorised by the appropriate national authority.
