Traffic Joins From Left Post Mounted Sign- Diagram 508.1 R2/RA2
This sign is used to give a warning where there is traffic joining from the left-hand side onto the main carriageway. This keeps the dual carriageway users alert and ready to move and allow new vehicles onto the road. Without this sign, cars may not notice the junction which could lead to sudden changes in speed and road position which can cause collisions or traffic build-up.
This sign should be positioned on the left of the main carriageway and is not reversible as it would be impossible for a road to join the right hand side of the carriageway. It should not be used for the junction that is joining the priority carriageway, where diagram 509.1 is needed. This is the same diagram but angled for use on the slip road joining a carriageway.
Where it is difficult to see where this junction is, the sign can be plated with the distance ahead plate in yards or miles, diagram 572. For more information regarding installation specifics for this sign, refer to page 12 of the TSRGD Guidelines, Chapter 4.
