Slow Moving Vehicles On Incline Post Mounted Sign - 583 R2/RA2 (Face Only)
The slow-moving vehicles sign, diagram 583, means there will be slower moving heavy vehicles ahead due to an incline. This may not just cause congestion, but collisions on roads with two lanes as traffic can close unexpectedly fast.
This may only be used with ‘Slow lorries for’ and a distance plate indicating how many miles the incline continues. This sign is usually found on dual carriageways and motorways with inclines below road standards. (The desirable maximum gradients defined in DMRB, Volume 6, Section 1, Chapter 4.1 are 3% for motorways, 4% for Dual Carriageways and 6% for single carriageways.)
The diagram is intended for upwards gradients only, to alert drivers of slower-moving vehicles which wouldn’t be the case going downhill. 523.1, ‘Steep Hill Downwards’ should rather be used on downwards gradients of 10% or more, with the nearest whole number indicated on the sign. This is also available from our extensive range of warning signs.
This sign can come in the standard sizing of 600mm. We sell options from 450mm to 1500mm, please call our sales team if you need a larger size.
