Steep Hill Downwards Ahead Road Post Mounted Sign - 523.1 R2/RA2 (Face Only)
This permanent warning sign indicates that there is a steep downwards gradient ahead. The percentage marked on the sign can be varied to reflect the road conditions. Our example shows a 10% downward gradient this means that for every metre travelled forward 0.1 of a metre will be lost in elevation.
This sign is often used in combination with supplementary plates 525, 526 and 527 all of which warn drivers to use a low gear to regulate speed so as to not overheat their brakes.
Due to the nature of this sign they are made to order as the gradient is almost always unique. The gradient will be rounded to the nearest whole number as per the government guidelines, for example, 10.4% will become 10% and 11.6% would become 12%.
