Geotextile Membranes
Whatever the building or landscaping project, big or small, geotextile membranes will eventually be involved. These membranes serve various purposes, from suppressing weeds to more complicated functions like preventing soakaways from filling with silt or preventing bank erosion.
Geotechnics come in a range of styles and materials, from woven to non-woven and even biodegradable, allowing you to choose the product best suited to your requirements. Most will be permeable membranes that allow water to pass through to ensure drainage is kept clear. This can be achieved in various ways, such as by needle punching, tightly weaving a fabric, or other measures that ensure that fine particles cannot pass through, ensuring soil layers remain separated.
The key function of most geomembranes and geosynthetics is to act as a water-permeable barrier between different types of aggregates, ensuring elements used in the construction of sustainably drained areas stay separate from each other. This is especially important when creating areas of sustainable drainage, where fine sands used in finishing and levelling would otherwise travel down into the hardcore that makes up the foundation, clogging it and restricting drainage.
