This ‘Ramp Ahead’ sign is commonly found where road resurfacing is being carried out, it gives road users a clear warning that the road surface may abruptly change in height. This is usually where the existing road surface has been removed and a ramp leads down onto the bare substrate. A second set of signs are usually used at the end of the bare section to warn drivers once more that a ramp leading back up onto the finished road surface is approaching.
