The JSP Portagate barrier is a durable and diverse folding barrier used by utility companies across the UK and Europe. The barrier is made from blow moulded HDPE (high-density polyethelyne) that has been UV stabilised to prevent it from becoming brittle in sunlight.
The barrier falls into two categories as it is both a chapter 8 barrier and a manhole barrier. The portagate barrier is often seen being used by telecoms, water and gas utility works around inspection panels and cabinets.
The portagate comes in either a three or a four gate configuration by default. You can extend this by joining multiple barriers together, forming long lines, or exclusion zones. Once folded the barriers can be stacked on top of each other. Each portagate has “tabs” that lock into the unit above it keeping them secure in transit.
A Class R1 reflective panel that complies to BS 8442 makes this barrier perfect for use on road works and in the public areas. It also provides 20% more reflectivity than standard materials.
The Portagate can be stacked onto pallets for easy transportation. How many you can get on each pallet depends on which configuration you order. For three gate barriers, you will get 25 units per pallet. For 4 panel Portagates, you will get 20 units per pallet.
One of the best features of the portagate is the ability to lock panels in a straight line. The adjoining clips can be slid upwards locking two panels together at either 90-degree or 180-degree angles. This makes arranging the Portagate around larger excavations and inspection pits easier and more stable. This is a feature that is not present on other similar folding barriers.
The Portagate is produced as standard in Red, Yellow and Blue. Red is by far the most popular choice of colour for these barriers. On our website, we currently offer the ability to purchase red and blue barriers. If you do require a different colour then please contact our sales team, they will be able to assist you accordingly.
If the standard colours are not what you need we can have barriers custom made in almost any colour. We are also able to custom emboss your companies name and logo onto the barrier. This can help prevent theft and assist in identifying your barriers on site.
An optional foot is also available, this makes using the barrier in long straight runs much more stable. When using the barrier in square or small configurations it is not required, but will still add stability if used. These are available to purchase separately.
