Platform brooms are ideal for larger sweeping roles as they can be fitted with a steel stay, which supports the handle giving better control whilst sweeping. Fitting a stay is often done in commercial and industrial applications where the broom will work harder or be of a larger size.
For deck scrubbing, short bristles are a great choice, medium length for slightly rough surfaces, such as tarmac, and long bristles for very rough surfaces and heavy deposits.
Stiff platform brooms are better for agitating and removing stuck on deposits, whilst soft bristle platform brooms are perfect for sweeping large areas.
If you are shifting heavy deposits or really need to scrub, then a wide-headed broom may be too heavy to handle or reduce the pressure being applied, making the broom less effective, so it is best to go for a narrower broom if this is the case. If you are looking to sweep a warehouse, you will want to look for a larger broom so you can cover ground faster.
