Hoop Guards

Hoop Guards

A simple and cost effective way to protect EV charging points, lighting infrastructure, or other valuable assets is with a hoop guard. They are compact, taking up less space than other protection solutions, and robust, with the capability to withstand collisions from almost all cars. Hoop guards come in a range of styles and sizes, but they are typically made from galvanised steel, making them exceptionally corrosion-resistant.

  • About Hoop Guards

Hoop guards are a type of metal safety barrier found worldwide. Typically, U-shaped, hoop guards are installed in urban environments to control vehicle access. They're used in a range of applications, from asset protection, like guarding EV charging points, to shielding shopfronts in busy areas. Their versatility and strong design make them a popular choice for improving safety and organisation in both public and commercial spaces.

Hooped perimeter barriers also serve as anti-terrorism measures, deterring unauthorised vehicle access. They're commonly used to protect storefronts, outdoor seating areas, and other pedestrian zones from potential vehicular threats. This is especially important in areas with heavy vehicular traffic, such as near EV charging stations, where a crash could have catastrophic consequences.

Consider the height and width you need when choosing a hoop guard. Depending on your needs, they are available in many distinct lengths and designs.

    Bolt Down Hoop Guards

Instead of being concreted into the ground, bolt-down barriers have been bolted down into an area of prepared ground first. These are easier to install, and quicker to remove, too.

    Galvanised Hoop Guards

These provide good durability and corrosion resistance over long periods of time, though they may not match the performance of stainless steel. However, Galvanised Hoop guards are much more cost-effective and they can be powder coated, too, making them a practical and durable choice.

    Stainless Steel Hooped Guards

Do you need an ultra-durable barrier? Stainless steel is one of the most durable metals. It is both physically strong and incredibly resistant to corrosion and rust.

    Removable Hoop Guards

Installed using a specialised method like casting in with embedded sockets, or bolting down using expansion bolts, these barriers can be easily installed and removed as required. This means they can adapt to the needs of the space and are perfect for use as a perimeter barrier.

Getting The Best Hoop Guards For Your Needs

Before choosing a protection hoop, consider the following factors to find the solutions most suited to you:

    Purpose

What is the intended use case of your metal barrier? Whether for pedestrian control, vehicle management or site security, consider the barrier’s primary purpose and what features it needs to perform this function before deciding on the best options for you.

    Material

Choose a suitable material based on durability and aesthetics. If you need saline and corrosion resistance, consider a stainless steel barrier. If you need durability and corrosion resistance, consider galvanisation.

    Fixing Method

Does your barrier need to be removable? Consider what it will be used for, what impacts it is expected to receive during its lifetime, and the available space around it.

    Visibility

How visible must your barrier be? Consider using high-visibility colours or reflective strips to improve the visibility of the barrier, especially in low-light conditions and at night. Consider pairing your barrier with reflective tape, prominent signage, and lighting for improved visibility and less likelihood of damage to the barrier.

    Dimensions

Ensure your barrier’s height, length, and diameter are appropriate for its intended use case.

    Maintenance

Consider how often and to what extent your hoop guard will have to be maintained. How easy will it be to clean, and what likely forms of damage will it receive during its normal lifetime? How resistant is it to corrosion and salt?
